America has a long history of trying to minimize sugar consumption.  For decades, sugar free was equated with guilt free.  Eating and drinking sugar free foods allowed us to continue our predilection for sweetness without having to worry about its effect on our waistline.  We’re now starting to learn that artificially sweetened foods often cause as many problems as the sugar it’s replacing and likely fan the flames of our powerful addiction to sweets.
